Connect Camera to Computer
After you've taken your first pictures, you'll want to use your computer to either look at them or to print them. There's 3 ways that you can do that. The camera manufacturer provides [with your camera] a piece of software which allows you to transfer photos directly from your camera onto your computer, usually through your computers USB port. Please note, many cameras use USB 1.1 specifications which can be slow -- this can use a lot of battery power when transfering high volumes of photos.
The first step in transfering from your camera is to locate your USB cable. [see below]
Next, locate the connector on your PC and plug in the larger of the 2 cable connectors.
Next, locate the connector on your camera. There are usually 2 areas that open up on your camera, 1 is for your storage card and the other is for your USB connection. In the image below, the connection hole is in the middle, under the flap.
Finally, plug the smaller connector into the computer.
Now we're ready to roll. Once you've connected everything (with your computer on), many camera programs will automatically start running when your camera gets plugged in. The image below is a sample window from NikonView, the software that came with Nikon cameras. Using this interface will allow you to save the from your camera to your computer, just click on the icon that looks like a disk.
