PhotoNamer Software

Join - sign up for our monthly eZine.

PhotoNamer software from FieldData, Inc. is a very interesting little program. The purpose of the program is to help you rename a lot of pictures that you have on your harddrive. The best thing about the program is that everything that you can do is right in front of you, as evidenced in the screen shot below.

Starting at the beginning, once you download and install the program, you should obviously run the program to get yourself rolling. Once you do that, I strongly suggest a few changes to the default settings:
- under the options, DESELECT 'Include Last 8 Original Name Chanracters in new name'.
- DESELECT 'Include picture date in new name'.

Once you do this, you're ready to start working with the software. The software allows you to do some very simple edits to the photos like; rotate left, rotate right, redeye removal, despeckle, crop, brightness adjustment. Other than this, the entire purpose of the software is for you to change to names of your photos so that you can better organize them. There's another very useful utility in the software, the button at the top of the interface quickly and easily allows you to resize the image (we recommend 640x480 for email).

Below are 4 screen shots of the left side tools available on the software interface -- the Folder tab, the Toolbox tab and the Thumbnail view tab, email dialog box.

The software is available at http://www.photonamer.com.

The bottom line -- the software works very well (and quickly) for what it does. If this is the easiest way for you to understand how your photos are organized on your computer, then by all means, give it a try. If you want a really great image editing or image catalog program, we suggest that you continue your search.
